[Christmas] December 25th

On December 25th we celebrate Christmas. This holiday began as a celebration of  the birth of Jesus Christ. The original meaning of the holiday was to introduce the story of Christ’s birth and pass his messages on through the spread of Christianity. These days we celebrate Christmas by decorating the home with lights and a Christmas tree and by receiving gifts on Christmas Day. The best gifts are brought by Santa Clause on Christmas Eve as children are likely to believe. Traditional colors associated with Christmas are Red and Green. There are many symbols of Christmas including cards, wreaths, garlands, mistletoe, nativity scenes, Christmas carols and more. Christmas has grown to be popular throughout the world and is celebrated by many.

Fun Facts

  • The tradition of having Christmas Stockings originally came from the Netherlands where shoes were filled with food for Santa’s donkeys.
  • The letter X is a Greek abbreviation for Christ, so “X-mas” instead of “Christmas” works just fine!
  • Many parts of the Christmas Tree can be eaten and are a good source of vitamin C. (The real ones of course!)
